How many Muslims are there around the world?

According to the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life, there are about 1.6 billion Muslims in the world. This makes Islam the world’s second-largest religion after Christianity, which has about 2.2 billion. Here is another way to look at it: about one third of the world’s population is Christian; about one fourth is Muslim.
